Many have asked for a Panama with a higher crown, and we’re pleased to announce the Rancher’s Panama. Along with a high crown, it sports a cattleman’s crease. It also features our own kangaroo leather hat band, hand braided here at our facilities in Bothell, Washington.
There are three air vents on each side. The body is woven in Ecuador from toquilla fiber which is considered the best straw for Panama hats.
Our latest jewelry comes from the hills of Scotland, where the purple blooms of heather decorate the landscape. Heathergems are made from this well-loved plant, which is dyed and blocked into unique color patterns.
Each Heathergem is handcrafted in Pitlochry, Scotland. The heather used is too old to provide any nutrition for wildlife and is pulled in a manner which promotes the growth of new plants.
The stems are dried, shotblasted to remove the bark and dyed various colors using natural dyes. Stems of different colors are then mixed together and compressed into a block. Eighty tons of pressure is required to press the block of stems together.
The block is then cut into slices and individual pieces are cut, shaped and filed by skilled craftworkers before being lacquered to give the final finish. The Heathergem jewelry we offer are set into sterling silver fittings. Each piece comes gift boxed, with a card explaining the process used to create Heathergems.
We’re very pleased to present two new hats from David Morgan.
The Hampton is the latest addition to our fedora collection. It has the narrowest brim yet, stretching to only 1 3/4 inches. And, befitting of a city hat, the brim is finished. The crown is 4 inches at the front, rising to 4 1/2 inches in the center and dropping to 3 3/4 inches in the back. A 1 1/2 inch grosgrain ribbon finishes off the hat. The color is a deep, rich Cedar Brown. More here.
Hampton Cedar Brown
The Adventurer, our popular Indiana Jones hat, has long been available in brown. We now have it in black. The open crown is 5 1/2 inches, the brim is 3-1/8 inches on the front and back, 2-3/4 inches on the sides. Raw-edged brim. More here.
With the coming of La Niña, much of the country is set to endure another season of cold temperatures. Stay warm this winter, both indoors and outdoors, with cozy items from David Morgan.
Koru socks are from New Zealand and made of possum fur. The feet are padded with grips in the shape of a koru, which means, ‘fern frond’ in Maori. The smooth fibers of possum fur have hollow cores and soft pointed ends.
Possum fur blended with Merino wool and nylon gives a strong, luxurious yarn that is extremely lightweight and soft. The yarn wears well, is easy to care for and resists pilling.
Our long underwear from Stanfield’s is made of 80 percent wool and 20 percent nylon. Wool is superior to synthetics for wicking away moisture while its anti-microbial properties keep odors from building up.
These will scratch at first, but trust us, after a few washes, they’ll be soft against your skin, keeping you warm and comfortable all throughout winter.
After this year’s long winter, we’re all ready to make the most out of summer. But amidst the picnics, camping and golf, we can’t forget to protect our heads.
Tilley’s Airflo fits the bill. It weighs a mere four ounces and offers excellent skin protection with a UPF rating of 50+. UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and unlike SPF (Sunlight Protection Factor), the rating includes standards for both Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B waves.
The crown contains a polyester mesh for ventilation. Tilley fabricates the sweatband with Hydrofil®, a modern fabric that keeps sweat away from your skin. The hat’s body is composed of Nylamtium®, a nylon that resists water and mildew.
The stitched brim is 3-1/2 inches on the front and back and 2-1/2 inches on the sides. You can use the adjustable ties for windy days. The Velcro closure on the small pocket in the crown safely holds a key, card, or cash.
Machine wash, air dry. Colors: Natural (with a green under-brim) or Khaki (with an olive under-brim). Made in Canada by Tilley Endurables.
Along with our new Tilley hats featured in the last post, we are also pleased to offer two new Panama hats. These hats are blocked in the United States. The bodies are made of toquilla fiber hand woven in Ecuador. They are reinforced in the pinch and at the base of the crown to help protect the hat at its weakest points. Teflon coats the fibers for water and oil resistance while maintaining its breathability.
The Darwin Panama takes the Panama down under. Like a true Aussie hat, the brim is turned down in the front and the back. We’ve added our own braided kangaroo hat band for a touch of the Outback. The crown is 4 inches at the front and back, rising to 4 1/2 inches at the sides. The brim is 3 inches.
The Panama Fedora is an elegant hat at an affordable price. The snap down brim has a thin hidden wire at the edge to retain your chosen brim shape. The brim is 2 1/2 inches and the crown peaks at 4 1/2 inches. The black grosgrain hat band holds a removable feather.
David Morgan is pleased to offer two additional hats from Tilley: the Airflo Hat and the Airflo Hat with Neck Protector. Both are crushable and packable and will not shrink. And, like all Tilley hats, they are guaranteed for life.
Designed for hot weather, they are certified with a UPF of 50+, the highest UV protection rating given. But don’t think of these hats only for sun protection. Their water resistance makes them great rain hats.
The Airflo has a 3/4 inch mesh in the crown that helps you remain cool and comfortable. At four ounces, you’ll forget it’s on, even in hot weather. The hat is made of Nylamtium fabric, a strong water and mildew resistant form of nylon. Colors are Natural with Green under-brim or Khaki with Olive under-brim
The Airflo Hat with Neck Protector has all the advantages of the Airflo with two additional features: a tuckaway neck protector and Insect Shield® protection. Wear the neck protector loose over the shoulders or Velcro it under the chin. The protector can be tucked under the back brim. The odorless and invisible Insect Shield® helps keep biting insects at bay and will keep performing through 70 washings. Color is Khaki with Olive under-brim.
